Asylum Seekers Centre Employment Assistance Program

advocacy.jpg

The Employment Assistance Program connects adult asylum seekers with paid work and volunteering opportunities in the work place. We work with asylum seekers who are living in the community on Bridging Visas and who have been granted the right to work by the Federal government.

Asylum seekers are not eligible for government funded job assistance schemes or welfare benefits. The ASC Employment Assistance Program fills a necessary gap, raising awareness of a very capable pool of employees.

The Employment Assistance Program has two teams:
• Job Advisors who are trained to work one to one with job seekers.
• Employer Relations Consultants who liaise with employers to understand and meet their recruitment needs.

Our candidates:

Live in the community on Bridging Visas with full work rights
• Have appropriate English fluency for the workplace
• Often are mature workers with significant levels of expertise and experience
• Are available and motivated to start work immediately
• Bring international perspectives to workplace challenges
• Many have sound qualifications  and  recognised skills
• Have a strong work ethic and keen desire to contribute to the community
• Have a tax file number and bank account

Our service to employers
A free recruitment matching service
A pool of willing and capable employees, with appropriate English language and relevant  expertise
Ongoing support - Job advisors make regular contact with employers and employees for 3 months following a placement to ensure a smooth transition to work

We invest significant resources in each placement to ensure it is successful and meets the needs of the workplace/employer.

Our Employer Relations Consultants are available to meet with you to understand your organisation’s recruitment, volunteering and corporate social responsibility needs. They are able to answer any questions you have regarding employing clients on Bridging Visas.

What we are seeking
•Employment – part time, full time, contract and casual work
•Work placement for candidates completing TAFE qualifications
•Volunteer opportunities
•That our candidates be considered on their merit
•Fair pay and decent work
