Asylum Seekers Centre

A big thank you to all those who helped us make our 9th Annual Quiz a record-breaking event!

Attended by more than 350 guests, we set a new fundraising record this year raising almost $45,000 for the Centre’s core services providing crisis support, health care, education assistance and employment assistance.

Themed A Night at the Movies, the North Sydney Leagues Club ‘Celebrity Room’ was full of enthusiastic film buffs and blockbuster fans dressed to impress. Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, and generously provided prizes. It was a magical evening and remembered by many as the best Quiz ever!

Hosted by the ever-hilarious HG Nelson and James Valentine, the duo combined their witty humour and knowledge on asylum seeker issues to present an informative yet fun-filled night. ASC Director, Prabha Gulati, addressed the room on the Centre’s services and the centre's vision for the new employment assistant program. Former ASC client, Jenel Tagobe*, shared her personal experiences as an asylum seeker and spoke of what the Centre meant to her upon arriving in Australia.

Guests thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Night At The Movies’ theme, with teams adorned as the cast Chicago, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter’s schoolmates, and many more. Upon arrival guests were welcomed by the musical stylings of Sax Summit jazz band, and were later challenged with a number of Hollywood era questions, including a round of show tunes featuring the lovely Edwina Blush on vocals and James Valentine on the saxophone.
